 On-board air write-up using stock A/C pump
SO I figured I won't be fixing my A/C since I took out the condensor to fit my tranny cooler. I also figured out that when I do my york, I'll have to run a tank and air lines and filters and oilers and wiring. So why not do that stuff now and use the stock A/C pump until I get the york in? BRILLIANT! Following Dblue's write-up on WT4X4 ( http://www.wt4x4.net/tech/onboardair.htm), I decided to go for it and do the damn thing. This will be a "after the fact" write up since I didn't have a camera the whole time I was doing it. It's fairly easy though. First I took the manifold off the back of the pump and cut the lines at a nice convienent spot where my pipe cutter would work. I then figured out which one was suction and which was outgoing. The bigger of the two is incoming Then I bought a bunch of fittings and hose and clamps and a full compressor air conditioning set from harbor frieght for $20. I got a ricer air filter for a breather for my incoming filter. I then directly wired the pump to a toggle switch in the cab I then mounted up an air tank under the bed. It's 7 gallons and it costs about $20. And yes I did make the tank mounting bracket out of some scrap metal I had laying around. I put some silicone weather stripping unbetween the tank and the bracket to keep it from squeeking as I drive down the road. I then ran air lines to the front and the back of the bronco. The last thing I want to do now is get a gauge for inside the cab so I know when the tank is full. I'll update you when I get to that.

It's easy enough to where I could help or just give you a complete rundown of what would be needed saving you some headache.

Looks great Rich, I wanna see some tests though! How long does it take to fill a tire from 12 to 35 PSI?

Re: On-board air write-up using stock A/C pump
That's a tricky test to just do one tire. It has a tank so if the tank is full, it should take around a minute or so at the most. Empty, it's filling the tires and the tank making it worse. The beuty is that I can disconnect the line going to the tank so I can use a full tank on the rear and then disconnect it so i'm only filling the tires. Once the tires are full, re-connect the tank and fill it up on the drive out. I can do a no tank 1 tire fill and give you that time.

If you hold the throttle it will fill much faster!

Re: On-board air write-up using stock A/C pump
update!
Iv'e since ditched the A/C pump and went with a york. The tank was doing great until the last snow trip where I hit a couple of "bumps" and sent my rear pinion into the tank itself. Time to replace it or maybe with some luck, modify and repair it.
Moral of the story, suspension travel beats good tank mount location everytime.

Re: On-board air write-up using stock A/C pump
I think i'm going to try and have my work do a "clearence" indent on the tank by cutting out a section and welding in an inverted section allowing more room. That tanks already mounted, plumbed and a good size. I don't want to have to do to much to make it work.
Also on the update; Harbor freight filter and oiler sucked, don't bother. Stock A/C pump worked ok but the york is much better.
