Post Re: My 1971 Travelall
I got power from the wire on the regulator that comes on with the key in the run position, and ran it through a coil resistor. Drove it up to Courtright Reservoir, stayed a couple days and came back. About half way up I noticed the amp meter was in the discharge, slightly. Made it up and back fine. Then put a wire from the F on the alternator to the battery, started it and the needle went into the charge. So I thought it was the regulator, I already had a new one. Changed it and moved the power source for the coil to the ignition switch, started it back up and it's not in the charge. I also checked the alternator, it has power on one post. So now I'm thinking the power from the F terminal isn't going where it's supposed to go. If it was going to the battery, it would show charge. ???

Travelall ran pretty good, no engine or transfer case leaks. A very slight leak from the transmission drain plug. This transmission is noticeably lower in first gear, and reverse. It's noisier though. It would have been worked harder, coming from a two ton instead of a half ton. It was nice to drive it again after a couple months of it being down.

I went back out and noticed one of the wires in the voltage regulator plug was backed off. I pushed it back in, fired it up and it's charging.

Yeah if it can handle that test drive it's ready, huh? I think it was a million degrees when we left the valley, half way up Courtright road everything was drenched. A thunderstorm had just came through. The people we were meeting were sitting in their horse trailer because of the rain and wind.

Yeah, and the people in the valley are oblivious to it.

Ha!

My truck has one, and I've been meaning to put one in the Travelall for years. BTW I didn't get it done yet, I'm back to working on my truck engine. Some progress though.

I ran it hanging on the hoist chain. Sounded good, but it had a 40 psi variance in compression. Three valves weren’t sealing, a little was getting by all the rings too.

Replaced rings and did a valve job. Also replaced oil pump, rod bearings, water pump, valve springs, and a few other things.

It’s a 345, probably from late sixties judging by how it’s dressed up. There are indicators.
