How are you welding the top of the cage? Weld first and slide into place, or cut the floor and lower down?

In Moab there is an opsticle called staircase that for a split second I believed we might not drive home when the front suspension unloaded. I'm ready for a cage.

Watching you do this cage work reminds me that I may never do another one lol. Its coming out good though! Are there rules from the sanctioning body of these races? Like cage thickness, number of points, halo style, etc?

honestly the cage work is easy and fun. in my case i don't have a windshield and my main hoop is behind the b pillar making all welding very easy to get to. Rich bought a full size bronco cage that slides in if i'm not mistaken. probably not as much room as is possible that way but ease is much higher. if it was to be done on a nice bronco i cared about i'd drop it through the floor for welding and then lift back into place. Mark did his by cutting his roof off... sound crazy but it made whole lot of sense when you see how much time and effort you save. he'll re-attach the roof section when it's done so you won't even know really. his cage is so tight if you put the interior pieces back on you'd have trouble knowing that the cage was there or not.
Current rules say that you must wear a fire suit and a helmet. that's it. lol

P.S. with Rick and Justin and possibly the pee runner looking to do nice cages in there fullsizes, you guys should team up and get better pricing and easier to copy one if it's layed out

in the 4banger and american stock(hobby stock) classes, all those guys cut the roofs off and put the cages in, saves a ton of time.

I can barrow jacks which is pneumatic now so that's not too big of a problem. DOM tube from tube services in milpitas is the cheapest place to buy DOM. It's just.... how bad do you want it?
Also, I used a guy to build my 68 cage named Dave virga. Slick looking cage but now that I have some experience, I wouldn't pay for another cage to be built for me. If you have more money than time let me know and I'll get you his contact info

Been too sick to work on it for the last week or so (when kids go back to school, it's almost a guarantee)

Here's some pics to hold you over

looks good but you don't have nearly enough light bars to go fast

Not a whole lot of updates at the end mainly because I was too busy wrenching. I'll get pics but the main update was how it did at the race. It performed great. Unfortunately, I did not. I pulled a rookie mistake and was overzealous at the start of the first heat. I kept my foot in it thinking I wouldn't catch air and it turns out I did. I ended up coming down with the tires spooled up and when it got traction it snapped the straps, broke the yoke on the rear diff and also broke something inside the 8.8 axle. Kind of a bummer because I have a feeling Rick and I would have done a lot of side by side racing had I not broke it. It ran great in practice and performed great overall. Pics and videos to come
