Sweet Jeep Justin. Should turn out awesome with the 4.3 and granny low tranny. Looking forward to the build!

Post Re: Blue 1964 Kaiser Jeep CJ5 build!
Continued evolution of the specs: (and some part numbers)

The majority of this jeep will be new once it's complete.

- Front brake pads are # D92 (for a 1977 CJ5). Most autopart stores list more than one number, so I decided on that number based on raybesto's catalog (another great resource)
- brand new front brake calipers and hardware
- rear drums had already been upgraded to 11", so after rebuilding the drums, I simply added the auto adjuster hardware back that was missing.
- The tcase is actually a dana 18, not a dana 20. Not big difference, but it's actually a 2.46 instead of 2.0 which is nice!
- because the axle have 3.72 gears, I've decided to not install the overdrive. 65 will spin less then 3k.
- added 2.5" leafs, partly because I decided to repair the existing frame and the existing springs where missing some leafs.
- Early jeeps have left hand thread lugs on the passenger side, since the dana 30 is newer, it meant only one wheel was left hand. I pressed out the studs and bought 20 new lug nuts so they all match.

Notes:
- Brake hose fittings are 3/8-24

You may want to seriously consider one piece shafts for that axle. It sucks when you spin a hub. Otherwise it looks awesome

My younger son's stock 65 Scout has tapered axles too.

Yep, I have no concerns of the hub / axle key being the weak side, the stock axles are 10 spline cut (not rolled) inside. Not going to be a crazy super hardcore extreme wheeler. 31"s for great street and mild off-roading. Should be able to handle most of hollister, pismo, snow wheeling, etc with ease. My other jeeps have the same setup, and I've driven over allot, let alone all of the previous owners miles before I started driving them.

Yeah but now you've got 3x the power and a real granny low. And a heavier rig. Remember how this snow ball goes in the full size stuff lol

We spun a hub on my brothers j-10 pulling out of a parking lot. Was a fairly new key too. Spent lots of time on the Rubicon fixing spun hubs years ago when wheeling with my dad (these were the days when a TJ was brand new) on a stock banger I wouldn't worry either, but that little 4.3 makes ALOT more power. Your jeep = your call obviously, just seems like a very worthwhile upgrade to me.

Picking this up again. I'm pulling the body to work on the frame next. I have some time off so I hope to make the most of these short days.

Rant: DMV reg is a total racket! $91 for a 1964 jeep is highway robbery. I have old paper work saying that only 16 years ago it was $31! Today's price isn't even close to our normal inflation rate!

My Bronco keeps going up too. And it makes the 250 look reaaaaaaaaaaaally cheap.

You gonna use that fancy ass frame you got or what?
