Post 2020 Ford Bronco
OK so I can't help myself but follow the slow trickle of information on this...

First, in case you've been living under a rock, Ford will build a new Ranger for the U.S. market starting 2019 and a new Bronco on the platform in 2020. Fact.

Personally, I'm totally mixed. The Bronco history is so cool. Exactly 30 years. Always 4x4. Always available with a V-8. Always 2 door. It's a fun history. It never went full-on soccer-mom. So I worry Ford is gonna ruin the name. But lets be optimistic, I mean look what they've done with the Raptor.

So the elephant in the room is, will someone step up and compete with the Wrangler? They're running away with the market since they are the market: factory capable real 4x4. Solid axles, reasonably sized, decent drivetrain, etc. And a HUGE aftermarket support because of those things. Does Ford have the balls to put out a solid axle Bronco to try and compete?

Maybe...

I'm curious about it... but is it too late? People are going to start buying automous cars, will a "drivers car" like this be good enough?

I'll test drive one when it arrives! :D

I think the following for the wranglers and broncos will jeep them selling during the autonomous years. As long as safety regulations don't require too much.

I'd love to see ford throw some solid axles under it but I don't see it happening. I think it will be a solid rig and be a good homage to the eb's and fsb's. I'm hoping svt will make some sweet offroady concepts like jeep does every year at the easter jeep safari.

word on the street is that Dana has already been contracted to make the axles for the new bronco so the chance of a solid axle is there. Funny thing is that it would be so easy to do the new bronco right but for some reason, I just don't think they'll pull it off. Basically any remotely similar build to any of the concepts or even a F150 converted to a shell instead of a bed.....

Either way you know it'll be a 50K base model so I won't be getting one for the first 10 years or so.

Dana also makes a large number of center sections for IFS stuff. I kind of think its going to be like the new FJ's. There will be a niche market that does stuff with them, but have to chop it up to make a serious offroader. Their concept looks pretty cool though

This I think is most likely. It's confirmed dana is making axle parts but that certainly doesn't mean solid fron axle. I'd bet solid rear and IFS.
