A couple of you expressed interest in this, so I thought I would post up.

It's northeast of Barstow California on 15. It's the International Harvester Western Regionals, it costs money. Maybe sixty bucks, I don't remember. All proceeds go to charity. This year it went to the Gary Sinese Foundation, the two previous years to Cal4Wheel. All makes and models are welcome, there were probably twenty plus Toyotas and Jeeps this year.

The pic with the lone rig is my least favorite spot, I can say it looks a whole lot worse than it feels though. Here's a shot of our group this year. There are several runs going on at the same time, there might be 70-100 registered.

That ledge does look sketchy, especially for a full size.

That's right around my birthday and I also tend to be quite busy at work that time of year so probably wont work for me.

My last time through there I seriously considered not doing it. When I got through I asked the people watching "alright who's got the baby wipes", they laughed. Then I said I don't like that spot at all, and one responded "nobody does". But honestly it doesn't feel bad at all, it just looks bad.

Maybe others can go, I think it was Toykeeper that said he was interested. I'll be there either way.

I am, and yes I am a bit worried about that spot. Last time I was there a rock buggy parked with his front tire in that spot from below, and I ran across it on top leaning heavily on the rock buggies tire for support. I think its been widened a bit since then though. I might be going in Jan with a group of early broncos, and am eyeing this one too.

When were you there last? I've been through there about four times without problems. I'm not aware of any rig flopping down in there, nor am I aware of rigs parking below to help. Interesting. You might do January, and again in April?

Not that I know of, seems the same to me.

Also if you look in the top picture, you will notice my rig and a full size Bronco that went through. I've only gone in the direction pictured, it requires a spotter to put your passenger side wheels as close to the rock as possible without climbing it. I'm gonna try and get in the group going in the other direction next time. Not for this reason, but I want to experience climbing Doran Canyon.

Link for online registration. It's cheaper than on site, and you get a free t shirt.

https://www.ihwr.org

You also have to call this number for campground reservations. (760)254-2311

Edit: Some get away without reserving a campsite. You can go behind the campground, or over by the trailhead. Note, some years it gets very windy, and there's no protection from the wind behind the campground.

I'd like to but would only be able to come out for the day on Saturday. But I don't see a way to pay up for a day and $60 is way to much to shell out for a day. Do you know if they have anything for a guy who might just show up for a day?

Tried to make 2 trips out there with the So Cal Broncos this year, but both were rained out.

The $60 is just for Saturday, what happens before and after that is unofficial. Remember it's a fundraiser, going to a veterans organization this year.

Did you watch the video? I always ask the spectators who's got the baby wipes after I get through that spot. It gets a laugh. I think my wheel slid over and dropped more than usual.
