Post Slick rock July 22nd
Time for slick rock again. I have work on the 21st so I'll be heading up July 22nd around 8am. Plan is to run the trail and see what time we get to alpine lake. Depending on that time we may run the trail back down or drive to the trailers.

Not sure on calling yet but I'll be up in murphys until Monday so I may be up for another trail up that way Sunday.

Have plans that weekend unfortunately. Was looking forward to a slick rock trip and seeing your redemption, Peter!

It was a great trip and shakedown for two of the rigs. We made it into a day trip, and it was a lot of road time (watched the sun come up, and then set), but it was worth it get the trucks on the trail. We left Rich's at 6:30AM (with Justin on time), and started the drive up. We stopped for sandwiches in Arnold, then parked the trailer on Spicer Resevoir Road about halfway to the trail head from highway 4 and hit the trail. The west trailhead was pretty busy with groups showing up and hanging out at Waterfall (the main obstacle on the west end). We moved along well and ran up to an area along the river just below Alpine lake to grab lunch and hang out after Rich's small power steering fluid fire (bring an extiguisher kids, or lots of dirt). After that we zipped up to Alpine and hung out before starting the drive home.

Here are the pics

So give me words.

Rich, how do you like the 5:1 tcase? I realize this isn't a terribly technical trail. The biggest time I want deeper gearing is technical downhill stuff where I always end up going faster than I'd like and riding the brakes. Any thoughts so far? You probably spent a lot of time in second / third?

Peter or Rich any thoughts on big tires without hydro? Again maybe trail is easy enough its not a big deal?

Justin, glad to see the old girl is treating you well. Also how the F did you make it to Tracy at 6:30!? :goodfinger:

Looks like a good run overall, glad you guys got out and shaked down before the Con in a month!

Well I had a window, 6-6:30am. Rich and Peter were in their tow rigs and Rich was composing a txt from inside his truck to let me know they were heading out.

For me the sag swap and new box made a huge difference. I was able to turn the wheel without it feeling jammed up most of the time. The pump did get warm by the end and was whining so I'm going to put a bigger cooler on it. Overall I was really happy with the steering and the hydro will just make it better

Crawl ratio was perfect. I only stalled it once when I was in 1st and low. Once I install the hand throttle that shouldn't happen anymore. The overheating power steering was an issue. I don't even have a cooler and that was the fail on my part. I only noticed the steering not being able to turn once when I was bound up. If I never Installed hydro assist I would probably be fine. The bronco overall kicked ass (in my mind) and I have very little to fix before the con.
