Post What I'd like to see in a new forum is: (add your request)
Phpbb had a good run, but I don't think I'll keep maintaining it on here much long. Time for something new!

- I know the number one request is better mobile image uploads (too big today)
- second is a better mobile client. I don't think an app is the answer, but I do kinda like pirates' new mobile theme.

my personal requests:
- new idea on "forums". No more browsing subforums, one constantly updating master page of unreads you can sort by tag (category or subforum). Single page web app, replies are posted without reloading.
- better search, live updates while I type would be icing on the cake
- live scrolling updates (think Twitter feed)
- Mention users get highlighted posts at top of feed (aka @chexmix)
- hashtags would be interesting but I think they clutter and should be converted once posted.
- not written in phpbb (dying language)
- minimal requirements, aka interpreter, http server, database. Like to avoid cache requirements outside the cdn.
- better social media integration
- including Facebook logins as option to sign up
- easily skin / theme-able.
- UTF16 and emoji support (can't use builtin iPhone smileys today)

Not sure any one project meets these. So those are my nerd requirements, what other things would you like to see in a new forum?

i really dont think we need anything other than what we have now.

i also have zero issues using the forums from my phone.

also, i voted to keep thinks separated into sub forums. a few forums i use to use did what you're talking about, and well.... i stopped using them because it made it a pain in the ass

i dont think we need to do any member highlighting, not quite sure what the point of that is.... this is a small community, and i really dont see that changing much

and facebook.... no, just no.

imho, keep is simple, theres no reason to get crazy

I'm pretty much on board with Zack.

I'm finally able to post pics from my phone without an extra website.

If you want more traffic to the site, we need to wheel more. Maybe we should consider "2nd Sunday of every month work party" to help get us all out on the trail. Just

Yeah i love the site. i can post with my phone and with my tablet i can copy and paste unlike other forums.

Certainly wheeling more and making a presence on other sites would help with increasing the traffic. Ive told at least 4 or 5 people about UC but haven't seen anyone new yet. Once my turd box is up and running i wouldn't mind taking it to a car show now and again which is a great way to spread the word even though im not an official member.

My 2 cents, the new pirate mobile forum is terrible. I rarely use it now its so bad.

I agree though the mobile support is important.

Also agree that ours is dated and could use a facelift!

This too. Content drives traffic.

I think those extra features would add unnecessary clutter and just have too much going on for me. I can't stand mobile themes for forums (or anything else for that matter), phone screens are good enough now anyway to use the standard format.

Only thing I'd change is making the login more robust. I don't like having to login every time I follow an email link. It seems to not let me stay logged in for more than a day or so.

Your checking the keep me logged in button? When I forget to click that, I intentionally log out and log back in. Lasts for weeks on my phone.

Sounds like there is a resounding dislike of change, I'll leave it for now, but we may be forced to move if phpbb doesn't stay patched. The new versions are supposed to add features (I held us back since I've been cut by the bleeding edge of tech before).
