You can go real cheap and get an early bronco one. Its upgradeable but weaker than a later full size one. You will save not having to shorten it.

Carrier, locker, gears or just slapping something in?

I just pulled one from pick n pull last week for $205. I know there was at least one more out there when I was there, but it didn't have a dif tag so I couldn't confirm spline count. They came in a ton of vehicles, I just checked the pick n pull inventory online until I saw what I was looking for, then I went out and checked it out. http://www.fordification.com/tech/rearends_ford01.htm is a great place to make sure you know what you're looking at before you spend the time to pull the axle.
