Post Tow rig...
It's time for a tow rig. I'm pretty set on what I want...

99-03 F-250 or F-350
7.3, 6 speed, 4x4
4 door / crew cab, SHORT BED

Short bed is kind of a must to fit the truck in my short ass driveway.

Closer to stock the better.

Hopefully not lifted.

Would like a camper shell but certainly not a requirement since I can buy one.

I don't want a beater, body and interior need to be in decent shape.

Hopefully under 150K miles.

I'm willing to pay top dollar / over BB for the "right" truck.

Don't really care about trim level or color. Actually prefer a lower trim with the front bench seat so it seats 6 legally.

I'd consider a truck that meets these criteria with a properly rebuilt 4R100 or maybe even a blown auto if the price was right.

I may also consider the OBS turbo'd powerstrokes, 94ish - 98. Almost all of them are long bed and pretty rough just given the age.

You forgot to mention the fact it needs to have a unicorn in the bed

A unicorn buried in a hay stack eating a hens tooth while parked under a triple rainbow.

Can you just give us the exact vin number of the 1 truck matching your description? Lol

Btw, drove a 7.3 excursion and hated it, drove a 6.0 and loved it. Bought the 6.8 because it was 1/3 the price

I want a diesel. I won't buy a 6.0 or 6.4. The 6.7 trucks are too expensive. So... that leaves the 7.3 :)

Hell yeah! Im kind of loosely looking for one right now. Expensive though even with 100k on the clock. You could buy 2 7.3s for the price of one cummins!

That is incorrect. I looked for months for a 7.3 excursion (15 years old and over 200k is the best you can find) and i only found 1 for under 20k. 7.3 powerstroke has gold valve covers and diamonds in the logo apparently. You can't finance them because they sell for too much over bluebook.
What cracks me up is that when you get one your transmission sucks, its actually super underpowered so you end up spending thousands to make them decent and in the process, shorten the life of the engine by about 75 percent.
You could literally build a ford pickup with a Cummins drivetrain for cheaper than buying a good 7.3

That's an excursion. Pickups are a lot more common and cheaper. Automatic powerstokes with 200k sell all the time for 9-12k.

Exactly my point 7.3 trucks are dirt cheap. So im not incorrect but good effort. No one will finance you on something old anyways. Its looked at as a bad investment if you crushed it. That means youd have to get a personal loan or find slippin jimmy used car lots to try to put some snake oil on it.

Dodge has been known for glass house trannys just like fords 6.0s need to have the body pulled off for studs. Every truck has its weak points, after all the dealer needs more money. A large percentage of people who blow trannies in dodges are trying to force an extra 200hp with a programmer and its not meant for that.

Personally id get a manual transmission if I had a diesel. Too much fun and jake brake!
